Staged control of domestic hot water storage tanks to support district heating efficiency

چکیده

Storage tanks are commonly used for domestic hot water (DHW) preparation in large buildings supplied by district heating (DH), especially to cope with peak demand. The charging control of DHW tank systems is often suboptimal, increasing return temperatures and harming the overall DH operation efficiency. This paper presents two novel concepts optimize charging, satisfying comfort hygienic requirements without leading excessive flows. first, more complex concept employs smart energy meter sometimes billing. It inspired development a second, broadly implementable employing staged proportional gain an added temperature sensor. authors tested refined this staged-gain using validated Modelica model real system Danish multistory residential building. subsequently implemented field, successfully reducing energy-weighted 7 °C total flow 23.6% compared conventional thermostatic control. analysis accounted variation tapping, temperature, supply cold temperature. Furthermore, performance was robust relaxed settings valve constraints, demonstrating minimal configuration new implementations.

Opportunistic pathogens relative to physicochemical factors in water storage tanks.

Household water in Oman, as well as in other countries in the region, is stored in tanks placed on house roofs that can be subjected to physicochemical factors which can promote microbial growth, including pathogens and opportunistic pathogens which pose health risks. Water samples were collected from 30 houses in a heavily populated suburb of Muscat. The tanks used were either glass reinforced...

Introduction of Air Cushion to Reduce Seismic Demand in Cylindrical Water Storage Tanks

Water storage tanks not designed explicitly for seismic loading could require retrofit. One of the common ways of retrofit include some structural change in the lateral load resisting system that could be expensive and requires the tank to be out of service for relatively long time. This paper introduces a novel method to reduce seismic demand on tank’s wall without structural intervention. Thi...

Retrofitting Conventional Electric Domestic Hot Water Heaters to Solar Water Heating Systems in Single-Family Houses—Model Validation and Optimization

System cost reductions and development of standardised plug-and-function systems are some of the most important goals for solar heating technology development. Retrofitting hot water boilers in single-family houses when installing solar collectors has the potential to significantly reduce both material and installation costs. In this study, the TRNSYS simulation models of the retrofitting solar...

Investigating the effect of hot water consumption profile on the performance of solar water heating systems

In this paper, a forced circulation solar water heater system is simulated for different hot water consumption profiles using flat plate collectors as well as evacuated tube collectors. The profiles studied are the actual samples of hot water consumption profiles for different commercial centers and institutions. Dynamic simulation outputs of system thermal performance are used as economic anal...

Legionella Infection Risk from Domestic Hot Water

We investigated Legionella and Pseudomonas contamination of hot water in a cross-sectional multicentric survey in Italy. Chemical parameters (hardness, free chlorine, and trace elements) were determined. Legionella spp. were detected in 33 (22.6%) and Pseudomonas spp. in 56 (38.4%) of 146 samples. Some factors associated with Legionella contamination were heater type, tank distance and capacity...
